Have You Herd?

I think I’m starting to really fine-tune my SoundCloud algo because this week it gave me two glorious 30-second invites into the worlds of Bricknasty and theMIND. I kinda love the fact that SoundCloud’s Discover feature only shows you short clips of the songs: it’s like a top-of-funnel method for finding music. It’s like “Scroll, scroll, wait… that was good, back up. Tap the artist profile and dive deep into their discography and WOW THESE GUYS ARE FCKING GREAT”

I’m def still riding the high of these great finds, and I hope you will too - lmk what u think:

What caught my ear

I feel genuine gratitude towards the SoundCloud algorithm for blessing me with Bricknasty this week. The geniuses in this up-and-coming Irish band are responsible for creating one of the most moving, raw, and technically stellar albums I’ve ever heard. I seriously could have chosen any song from this tape, but vinland is a standout: catchy guitar lines, Fatboy’s signature stylized vocals, and a sincerely raw production that makes you feel like you’re in the room listening to them play. Give the whole disc a whirl, I promise you won’t regret it.

What caught my ear

This is honestly just timeless, bumping tech-housey goodness. Croatian DJ & Producer Matroda just dropped this heater that blends classic house-style vocals with monster bass lines and thumping drums. If you’ve never heard his stuff, fair warning: endless head-bopping is in your future.

Under the moniker theMIND, Zarif Wilder’s fresh take on R&B brought us this glorious short album. The epitome of artful vocal play, “OH DEER (DAMN, LOVE REALLY)” stood out as a tune that has just the right amount of fun infused into a laid-back but driving soul beat. Some of his vocal lines give me hints of everything we love about Frank Ocean - curious to know what you think?
