You Herd? It's the beatmasters edition
Week 7 -- April 7th, 2025
I think I have officially entered the world of cracked-producers-that-only-flip-rap-songs on SoundCloud. Every song the algo shows me is just a better version of the original tune, which honestly just goes to show how much raw musical talent exists in the industry today. It’s crazy to think about, but you might never hear your favorite song purely because it’s buried under an infinitely-growing pile of mediocre music that you have to dig through first.
As you might already know, I’m working on a solution… but ya it’s a tough nut to crack (shoutout Charlie for jamming on this stuff w/ me this week)
Also I feel obligated to mention that Skrillex dropped a new album this week (I hate it) but could be a fun blast-from-the-past for some. EDM twitter has been raving (pun intended) about it all week long, but I’d love to know what you think.

Matveï is back with a bang: this tune scratches my itch for jazzy-housey goodness that isn’t too on the nose. He brings his signature rhythmic, manipulated vocal style to this tune to layer it on top of a juicy sax line. I think the word that comes to mind is “smokey” - give it a whirl.

Drake has never sounded so good. BOYDEGA reimagines “Polar Opposites” with a simple but beautiful piano ostinato. The two-chord progression combined with the galloping kick drum compliment each other perfectly. I really can’t stop bopping my head to this one… it’s one of those songs that reminds me of a never-ending train ride or drive (in the best way).

Would’ve been perfect for the last edition! British rapper Knucks gave us the incredible “Leon the Professional” back in 2022 almost exactly 3 years ago… and about a year ago WLLFLXX remixed the instrumental. It’s spacey, jazzy but hits you right in the chest with the signature punchy kick-and-808 combo of drill music. This one is for the rap lovers out there.
